As the game got closer, many people were looking forward to watching Monticello football play in the playoffs. Senior Andrew Neef said, “I’m just pumped to see Monticello host a playoff game for the first time since my freshman year.”
Senior Captain Mason High shared his thoughts about the upcoming game. He said, “I feel good about our chances and I think we will make the necessary preparations in practice to make sure that we win.”
Senior Lineman Trey Leynes was very excited about this round 1 match against DuQuoin. “I’m going to practice 110% all week and watch lots of film in order to win the game,” said Leynes.
Leynes admitted that he was bit nervous prior to this big game. He said, “I’m still confident that the team will do their job, to pull off the win at home.”
This was an exciting week for the MHS students and players. This was the first time since 2022 that the Sages had hosted a playoff game.
