Make sure to eat your apples; the Fox Hill haunted hospital is filled with demented doctors ready for your appointment. As their 10th year of operation, Nightmare at Fox Hill includes over 25 scenes to make it through, creating a popular attraction that presents a fun way to celebrate spooky season spirit.

With our own local haunted house being open, people are often wondering how good it is. Was it scary? Was it worth the money? Should I visit it? To answer these lingering questions, differing Monticello High School students shared their own personal experience.

Halloween lover, senior Hannah Tish, has been a scare actor at Nightmare at Fox Hill the past ten years. Regarding her experience she shared, “Working for Fox Hill is so fun because not only do I get to act, but I get to be involved in a community with such amazing people. Everyone who works there is so nice and accepting. I also love working there because I have always loved anything horror and acting in general. It helps me get more experience interacting with people and improvising what I say while acting.”

Since it’s significantly less intimidating as an actor compared to those being scared, senior Hannah Evans elaborated upon her experience going through the haunted hospital. “I had a really fun time at the haunted house this year. I wasn’t expecting to have as much fun as I did. I would say that this has been the best year yet. There were lots of different rooms with twists in every one. I would definitely recommend people go check it out.”

If you believe that you have the bravery that Evans demonstrated, it may be worth your time and money to take the risk and book an appointment. If you rather be behind the scenes and be the one doing the scares, volunteers are openly accepted. Tish further spoke of the benefits of working as an actor and explained, “My favorite part of being a scare actor is the people I get to meet, whether it be patrons or other actors. I get to meet awesome people with the same interests as me or people who like what I do and think I do a good job.”

It is important to keep in mind to always remain mature and respectful wherever choosing to go through Nightmare at Fox Hill, or any other haunted house this season. Tish shares upon those who don’t and said, “The only thing I would say I dislike is how some people come in and are disrespectful to the actors and other workers when what we do is voluntary. We take our personal time to entertain others, and the only thing we get in return is good reactions from patrons.”

This spooky season, enter if you dare at Nightmare at Fox Hill to have the same positive experience that our own Monticello students did. To get into the full spirit, become a volunteer to cause fright to your friends. You may even find yourself having a scary amount of fun!
