Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a nationwide organization revolving around educating student athletes on how Christian values play a role in athletes’ day to day life. Taylor Mabry and Gehrig Quick, two sophomores here at Monticello High School, participated in FCA last year as freshman and they spoke very highly of this organization.
Concerning how FCA affected her performance in her respective sport, Mabry stated, “I feel like I have become a better athlete and competitor because of FCA. I have less stress and more sportsmanship.” Quick added, “I feel that FCA allows me to remember who I’m playing for and how lucky I am that I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to play.”
Quick spoke on how FCA affected his life, saying, “FCA is mentioned on the announcements everyday and it also serves as a reminder. Whenever FCA lessons stick with me, I will bring them home and discuss the lessons with my friends and family.” Mabry then said, “I usually pray before or after every practice and meeting. I try to give God the glory and use my abilities to honor His Name.”
When asked about why they joined FCA, Quick said, “I joined FCA because some of my friends were doing it and I knew it would be a great way to continue to develop my relationship with Christ.” Mabry then followed, saying, “I used to do FCA camp when I was younger so when I found out there was a club I immediately joined.”
FCA meets on Thursdays in Mr. Welter’s room from 2:45-3:05. All are welcome to attend!
