The band and color guard have been working very hard on this year’s marching band show, Viridescent.

When discussing this year’s show, Senior drum major, Leah Killion, said, “I am really excited for Viridescent to be my last marching band show, because it is such a good show, and we’re so prepared for it. We have such a good group of marchers this year, and I’m really excited. It’s going to be the best one yet.”

This year’s props include a mine cart holding fake emeralds, empty crates, and large poppy flowers. Junior Ethan Courchaine stated, “The props are great. Jimmy King always makes phenomenal props every year. He’s got it figured out.”

Throughout Viridescent, Killion has two vocal solos. “We are going to place our other two drum majors, [Junior] Andrew Bledsoe and [Sophomore] Ian Anderson, where the whole band can see. I am going to stop conducting, turn around on the podium, and just start singing. I think we might put some dust on my face or something. Mrs. Allen’s master plan is to have a glowing emerald thing on my chest like Moana. It’s going to be so cool. The drum majors will hopefully have duster jackets, so I will turn around in that, and turn around and start conducting again.”

The band isn’t the only group that’s excited. The color guard has been working extremely hard on their routines for the show. Concerning their preparation, senior Allie Weber said, “I feel like this week is going to be rigorous for the guard trying to prepare for the game and Sage City. I feel like we’ll be prepared enough to put on a good show.”

The Marching Sages performed at the Metro East Marching Classic at O’Fallon Township High school on September 7 and will perform during halftime at the home football game v. Mattoon this Friday, September 13. Sage City, a home competition, hosted at Monticello High School, will take place on Saturday the 14th.
