The Sages started their 2024 football season against St. Joe Saturday, August 31th. The boys lost 40-28. Since football is starting back up, the atmosphere of the school is changing and school spirit is starting to kick into action.

Senior Russ Brown commented, “I believe students are more interested in school during football season because the weather is usually good, and the atmosphere around the field always makes a great time for everyone.”

Brown also commented, “School spirit impacts me as a football player by just knowing that I have fans and or supporters behind the team that gives us lots of energy.”

Senior Jack Helms stated how the school spirit impacts him as a player, “It motivates me to try hard since the school is depending on the team and a lot of the school will be watching.”

The student section adds to the atmosphere, Helms stated, “The Sage Cage definitely gives the games a different feel because everyone on the team is trying to show off for them. They also give games a whole different atmosphere due to the cheering and yelling, unlike away games.”

You can catch the football boys play at their next game on Friday, August 13th at home versus Mattoon. The student section theme is Neon and Construction.
