Every year, the senior class has a tradition of coming together as a group to watch the sunrise during the first week of school. The event took place on Monday, August 19th at 6:00 a.m. this year, which was the second day of school. This sunrise is symbolic for the start of the school year and is always a fun event for the whole graduating class to attend. There was food and music, as well as fun signs to take pictures with.
Senior Ava Bodine said, “My favorite part was definitely the sense of unity and fun; it felt amazing to start our senior year together with such positive energy and great memories. The whole event was filled with laughter and joy, making it a perfect kickoff to our final year of high school.”
Senior Caleb Wood also commented on the environment of the fun morning. “It felt like a community. Everyone was socializing with peers and nothing but smiles and hope for a great upcoming year were present.”
Senior Elle Bodznick gave her opinion on what the best part of the sunrise was, saying, “My favorite part of Senior Sunrise was sitting on our blankets and talking with everyone. I am really happy with the turnout and glad so many people came!”
However, such success demands a lot of preparation. Student council works hard year-round to make sure that events happen the way they are desired to. Student Council president, Bodznick, shared some background information on how the school made Senior Sunrise happen. “We had to decide quickly after our first board meeting if we were going to even have a Senior Sunrise, but of course we had to. The main areas of planning were the food, drinks, music, and publicity! Putting up last minute posters on the exit doors of the school, as well as social media posts were very important.”
While Senior Sunrise is a student council led event, many others contributed to the events as well. Bodine stated, “For Senior Sunrise, my friends and I decided to make it extra special by showing up in matching pink leopard print pajamas and bringing a sign decorated with flowers and cut-out letters that spelled ‘Senior Sunrise.’ We took lots of pictures with our friends, shared laughs, and chatted with everyone there.”
The event had a great turn out that brought many people closer. The scheduled watching of the sunrise was a great start to the year. Bodznick spoke about how this affected the class of 2025. “I think that Senior Sunrise created a sense of unity and togetherness that we may have not experienced as a class without it.”.
