Accounting field trip

On Friday, April 19th, Mr. Webb took a group of accounting students, current and former, to Illinois State University for an accounting competition. The accounting competition consisted of an hour-long test, a campus tour, team games, and an award ceremony.

Senior Tynley Jackson said, “It made me realize that there is still a lot to learn about accounting. Even though we won the team competition, we didn’t place within the top three.”

Jackson believes that this account competition has set her up for success in her future as an accounting major in college. Jackson said, “I like math and have really enjoyed the curriculum that is being taught at our school. The competition has made me excited to start my career as an accountant.”

The competition was not only for future accountants, but anyone who has taken the class. Senior Jack Weidner, a soon to be Education major at Illinois State University, participated in the event.

Weidner said, “It was a great experience to visit my future home and compete with my friends. Although I won’t be doing any accounting in the future, it was still a fun experience.”

The students had a lot of fun competing but also enjoyed the other activities.

Senior Trey Welter said, “My favorite part of the day was having Avanti’s for lunch. Reggie the Redbird (ISU mascot), came over to me and started messing with my food, so I had to tell him what’s up.”

The accounting competition was a great learning experience not only for the students, but also for Mr. Webb. Webb went to multiple meetings with other accounting teachers and learned what other teachers are doing in their classrooms. He also was able to learn from his students who told him about what was on the test that they hadn’t learned yet so that he could cover it in the future.
