It is common knowledge that the end of the school year takes a toll on everyone. Most people are ready for the school year to be over and for summer to be here. Seniors may be experiencing something students like to call senioritis. It’s when a senior student starts not doing their work, skipping school and class, not paying attention, and feeling like the rules don’t apply to them. This is due to the fact that their high school careers are almost over, and they are just ready for it to be done.
Senior Lynnsey Trybom stated, “Around March, I was definitely experiencing senioritis because I didn’t have any important school work to be done and was just so tired. But now, a lot of finals are due and I want to keep up my good grades, so I’m not really experiencing it anymore.”
Most seniors are experiencing senioritis now because they are just ready to move on with life and really start a new one. For most, this is the only school they have ever known and are excited to get out and explore the world and what is to come for them. Senior Lynnsey Trybom also stated, “It hasn’t really hit me that I’m going to be graduating in a few weeks. I’m excited to be going to college…but I’m sad that I’m leaving high school and all of my friends… so it’s bitter sweet.” This is the case for most seniors: they are ready to be done with high school but are sad to leave their friends, maybe their parents and other family.
Freshman Lillie Burse stated she is, “feeling very happy [that the school year is almost over] because its almost summer, and next year I will know what to expect and I won’t be a freshman anymore.” This is how it is for most freshmen at MHS: they are ready for summer and are even more ready to no longer be freshmen.
Junior Lily Spainhour stated, “I feel a significant decrease in anxiety, but I’m still stressing since I have my APEN test.” AP tests are upon students at MHS and they can be intimidating. Students in AP classes do have the option to not take them. If they don’t take them, they don’t get the AP credit for that class so most students chose to take them. Testing is a big reason students get stressed towards the end of the year, with finals and other tests for wrapping up classes. These tests can really drain students emotionally and physically due to all the studying and not focusing on themselves.
