As MHS students approach the final month of the school year, many challenges and excitements arise. Whether they are facing pressure from approaching deadlines, spring sports, or other dreadful tasks, students from all four grades of high school say that this time of year is one of the most stressful. However, along with all of the stress, there are also many positives that come with the closing of the school year.
For many students, the rising temperatures have decreased their productivity. Junior Lucy Leatherwood shared, “Some of my biggest challenges these last few months have been making time for homework, sports, friends, and family. Ever since the weather has been getting warmer, the less work I want to do.”
Similar to Leatherwood, other students say that their biggest challenge around this time is staying focused on the important things. Senior Jobi Smith said, “As the end of the school year is approaching quickly, it has been hard to stay concentrated when there are other things I would like to do. I have been constantly telling myself to continue to try as hard at the end as I did in the beginning.”
There are many factors that come into play that keep students motivated and hard working through this final stretch. Sophomore Pyper Burton stated, “The things motivating me to keep up my hard work as the school year ends are keeping good grades and pushing myself for the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the year.”
Without a doubt, the last quarter of school can be a stressful time, but it is also a time to enjoy. Burton shared, “I am most excited for the warm weather and getting to spend more time outside in all of my classes. I am also looking forward to Carnival Day and getting to hang out with friends.”
Along with Burton, freshman Thea Key also looks forward to spending time with her friends and enjoying the sun, but doing it through sports. Key said, “I am happy to be playing softball with all of my teammates and enjoying the nicer weather.”
The end of the school year is like the end of another chapter of life, especially for the seniors. Smith shared, “Knowing I am approaching the end of my high school career feels scary, but I am also very excited for a new chapter in my life to begin. Nonetheless, I know I will always look back at my four years here and be very thankful for all that high school has taught me.”
On the opposite end, the freshmen are almost finished with their first experience of high school, which will be their life for the next three years. Key said, “I feel excited for the year to end, but also am going to miss it once it’s over.”
