The Sages baseball team have started their season 22-0. They are currently rank #4 in Illinois according to Maxpreps.
Junior baseball player Eli Craft stated their key to success, “What makes our team so good is that we have a bunch of competitors. Each and every one of us when we get the call are ready to perform the task needed to win.”
How long will the Sages be able to ride their undefeated streak, and who stands in their way?
Junior baseball player Carter Foran said, “There are a few good teams on the schedule left for us… Pontiac, St. Joe and St. Anthony.”
The Sages have made deep runs in the playoffs in the past, but they look to make it the furthest this year.
“We need to bring as much energy as we can and start from the jump. Even taking 1 inning off can lose you a game in baseball, so we have to be locked in and ready to go from the start,” stated Foran.
Craft gave his input of who he thought was their toughest challenge remaining. “ The biggest obstacle left this season is ourselves. It’s a long season, so we will have to overcome fatigue and we will have to stay focused each and every day, which isn’t easy at the slightest,” said Craft.
What has made the Sages so difficult to beat this year?
“… No matter the game, no matter the score, we are never out of a game. Whether we are hitting badly and we need just 1 or 2 runs we scrap them by, or if we’re losing we find a way to fight back and get the win,” stated Foran.
The Sages are back at it again this week with 4 games. They start off Monday with a tough home game against Pontiac, at Tri-Valley on Wednesday, at BCC Thursday, and they wrap this week up at home against Warrensburg on Saturday.
