As students enter the final few weeks before the end of third quarter and the start of spring break, the anticipation rises for many students. Not everyone has plans to travel this year or partake in something extravagant, but simply a break from the tasks of everyday school life is desired by nearly all MHS students.

With the start of spring sports right around the corner, a lot of students will spend their week off filled with practices and games. For some families, having a high school athlete in a spring sport has altered old spring break traditions. Junior Lucy Leatherwood shared, “My family used to have a tradition of going to Florida each year, but we don’t do that anymore due to my softball practice.”

Senior Sylvie Harvey shared a similar experience, being a spring sport athlete as well. She said, “My siblings and I have always been in a sport during spring break, so we never really get to go on a trip.”

To some, spring break is all about getting to spend time with those you rarely get to see. Although she doesn’t get to go anywhere on her break, Harvey shared that she has a lot of fun spending time with her sisters. Harvey said, “It’s nice to be able to see my siblings since they go to college and live far away.”

With the idea of spring break, comes the hope of warmer weather. Many MHS students seem tired of the snow and are ready to see temperatures rising. Freshman Emily Grabarczyk stated, “I am so excited for break, and I hope that it is warmer!”

No matter where students plan to spend their break, or what they plan to do, there is something for everyone to be excited for. For Leatherwood, simply being able to sleep in longer is something that thrills her. She said, “I can’t wait to not have to set my alarm to wake up!”
