3rd quarter slump

The 3rd quarter always seems to be the most exhausting time of the year. Students walk down the hallway and see their peers tired and struggling to make it through the day. This year the 3rd quarter has 35 days. This quarter’s only holiday with a day off is Presidents’ Day, which is always greatly needed. The wait for spring break seems like the hardest time of year and the most loaded with schoolwork.

Junior Avery Hoffmeister explained her lack of motivation and said, “I think that this time of the year is tough on me because I feel burned out, and yet the end of the school year feels like a century away.”

She also made an important point that the negative energy of the quarter might have more to do with external factors than the workload at school. “I think the weather has a huge impact as well because it seems to minimize social events, which can be mentally hard. I do believe that my peers feel the same way because no one seems as joyful as they did the first semester or even how everyone acts around 4th quarter,” added Hoffmeister.

Fellow junior, Lynette Fenelon, expressed that she feels very stuck in a routine but has a major lack of desire to stick with it. “It has been easier to keep on top of my tasks just because I started a habit of doing my work on that day, so it isn’t as hard to finish it. But yes, pretty much there is a major lack of motivation and effort in wanting to do anything. It feels as if there is a weight pulling me down with each step, and it’s so draining, honestly,” Fenelon said.

This quarter is tough on everyone in the building. A good rule of thumb during this time of year is to be understanding towards others because so many in the building are struggling. The sunshine will be out soon, and the energy in our school will be flourishing.
