With the stress of upcoming finals, students at Monticello High School can feel a little more relaxed as they remember that the holidays are coming right up. Everyone has a favorite part of the holidays, and some of those favorite things come from family traditions that have been celebrated over the years.
“My favorite part of Christmas Day is waking up in the morning, opening all my presents with my family, and then going back to bed when I’m done!” stated senior Brayden Robson.
Even though high school students are growing up and might not have the same beliefs as they did as when they were kids, they can still find joy during the holiday season.
Sophomore Mylin Bruhn said, “When I was a child, I loved going to a candlelight service and coming home to read the Christmas story. I also loved going down to my grandparents and celebrating Christmas.”
Some students even carry on their traditions that they started at a young age.
Bruhn later stated, “My sister and I do a gift exchange every year where we buy presents for each other and open them on Christmas Eve!”
When you have a tradition that means a lot to you, you want to share those traditions with your own family in the future.
Freshman Dacey Kooi said, “My family gets up each Christmas morning to open presents, and then my grandparents come over for breakfast and open their gifts from each other. I hope this tradition stays for a long time.”
Even though we all have different traditions for the holidays, we all find joy in being with loved ones.
