With the first semester coming to an end, many seniors are already feeling unmotivated and are ready for the year to be over. This is often referred to as senioritis.
Senior Harry Schuermann said, “It’s harder to wake up in the morning, and I don’t want to go to school when I wake up. I don’t want to do my homework at night and most of the time I don’t.”
The cause of senioritis varies from student to student. Some students may be looking forward to their future, starting college or working a job, or they could just be tired from all of their hard work that they’ve done over the past three years.
When asked about the cause of his senioritis, Schuermann said, “I’m just ready to get out of here. I’m excited to work a full time job. That’s exactly what I’m looking forward to; I’m pumped.”
Even if a student isn’t being directly affected by senioritis, it is still noticeable among their classmates.
Senior Reese Patton stated, “You can kind of tell that a lot of people don’t want to be in class, and many people aren’t there.”
In senior classes it is very rare for every student to be present. Classes are often full of absentees and have many empty chairs.
Patton also noted that people often get called out of classes and leave school early because they are ready for the school year to just be over.
