The week of November 20th the students and staff at MHS had a week off to celebrate Thanksgiving. The fall break came as a much needed rest period for students with finals approaching in a few weeks.

On Thanksgiving, November 23rd, many members of the Sages community spent the day with family and loved ones. Teacher Laura McCleary said of her Thanksgiving, “I saw my extended family, and I saw my husband’s family. I also cooked dinner for my parents, my mother-in-law, and my family.”

A major part of the Thanksgiving holiday is food. Many people enjoy traditional dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie at their gatherings. Other people may have indulged in food like ham, rolls, and apple pie.

Teacher Kara Hettinger shared, “I like potatoes, so we had mashed potatoes which was just everything. You can’t go wrong with a green bean casserole, and I also made sweet potato casserole. Lots of potatoes and a little bit of vegetables.”

Most students and workers get Thanksgiving and the days surrounding it off. College students often come home, and family members who have moved away come back.

Sophomore Adison Sheppard said, “I spent it with my mom’s parents and one of her brothers, and then my dad’s brother’s family. [My brother] Drew came home as well.”

Overall, the students and faculty of MHS value quality time with family and eating good food on Thanksgiving. Hettinger added, “Honestly, I just like when my holidays are relaxing. I can hang out with my family, so that’s my favorite part.”
