On November 10th, the day before Veterans Day, all Monticello students gathered together in the Sievers Center to honor veterans. The high school choir as well as the younger students  participated in singing patriotic songs during the assembly. Members of the community also attended to recognize veterans in the audience that day.

“The part I enjoyed the most was when the whole gym sang ‘When I See My Flag.’ I think Veterans Day is important because the men and women who put their life on the line deserve recognition,” said junior Connor Kuntz.

“Veterans Day is important because it is a day to show gratitude for our veterans. My favorite part of the assembly was seeing all the different [military] branches standing,” commented junior Brody Billedo.

For several Monticello students, the assembly held a deeper meaning as many had grandparents or other family members who had served in the military. The assembly allowed them to remember and celebrate their loved ones for their sacrifices.

“My grandpa is a Vietnam veteran, and he means a lot to me because we would play catch in my backyard when I was younger,” stated Billedo.

“My grandpa is a veteran, and we always celebrated him by inviting him to the Veterans Day assembly in the school and then dinner with him afterwards,” shared Kuntz.
