After much waiting, the class of 2024 finally got their chance to attend the MHS annual Senior Sunrise on August 25, 2023 at 5:45am. This annual event consists of seniors coming together at first light in the morning for donuts, beverages, the chance to be around their peers, and make lifelong memories.

Senior Sunrise is very well known for all of its positive effects on students. It allows students a great introduction into their last year of high school and allows students to enjoy the little things.

Senior Emma Bailliez noted, “I really enjoyed the breakfast that was provided.” Fellow classmate Kiley Williams added, “ I enjoyed seeing our class come together and bonding with each other while celebrating our last year together. It just made me happy to see everyone and get to relax while celebrating this time in our life.”

As the first senior event arose for the class of 2024, senior Lexi Clarkson stated, “I guess when we got there and started taking pictures it really hit me that it was the first senior event and that there aren’t really going to be many more first. I’m excited but also really scared because this is when we have to start getting serious about things and I’m not exactly prepared for adulthood.”

As the seniors begin to feel all the emotions, they have also considered those below them as they soon will be entering the same events as seniors currently are. Williams shared her advice for underclassmen, “Just live life as much as you can. Schooling is very important but you only get one senior year in high school, so finish it doing all the things you love and surround yourself with people that make you the happiest to have an amazing year.”

While this was a bittersweet day for seniors as this is the start to the end of their high school career at Monticello, many seniors elaborated their experience as “ forever memorable.”
