On February 7, Sages girls basketball took on Williamsville Bullets for senior night.
Senior Jacq Maxey states her thoughts before the game, “I was nervous but excited to play, even though I’ve been injured. I was happy to play with my team one last time and celebrate the end of the season with them.” Maxey continues about her favorite memory about the season, “When we went to watch the 4th and 5th graders play basketball in Maroa. I liked that because it was a great opportunity for team bonding and I enjoyed getting to know my team better.”
Senior Lydia Burger states her favorite things about basketball is, “How it is always a lot of action, and it never gets boring, and it fast paced and constantly changing.” Burger shares some advice about tenacity, saying that it’s important to keep going even when you’re “having to push…when it seems pointless.”
The Sages senior night ended with the Sages being defeated, but Maxey shares with us something she’s looking forward to in college, “I am looking forward to making new friends and reinventing myself. I am also looking forward to studying chemical engineering and helping others.” Maxey continues with one piece of advice she would leave for an incoming freshman: “The coaches are talking to you as a player not as a person, don’t let anything get in your way of becoming who you want to be.”
Although the sages didn’t win their senior night, they will forever have many memories and more to come.
