With February 14th is just behind us, Monticello High School students are still enjoying the excitement of Valentine’s Day. One way students express their feelings in the spirit of the holiday is through Matchomatics, started by the Student Council program at the high school. Students fill out a survey about themselves and get matched with classmates based on their compatibility.

“The school has been doing Matchomatics for a while, at least as long as I’ve been here. We like to do the Matchomatics survey every year for Student Council to help raise school morale. It gets people talking and interested around Valentine’s Day,” shared senior Slater Goebel. Goebel is the Student Council Secretary and in charge of the committee that planned the Matchomatics this year, along with suckers.

Majority of the school takes the survey and receives their Matchomatics survey the following week or two. Students can be heard talking about their “number 1” results for the next couple of days.

“I like Matchomatics because it’s fun to see who the survey says you’re compatible with. It’s like a real life buzzfeed quiz. It’s fun to see different people on my list that I’ve never really known. It gives me an excuse to talk to more people,” said senior Katie Mesplay, president of Student Council.

“The results are always fun to talk about with friends. The survey is easy to complete and most people are just naturally curious about who they are similar to and who is different from them,” stated Goebel.

While many students enjoy filling out the survey and seeing their results, most consider the results to be fairly inaccurate. Friends often find amusement in their results with each other.

“One of my best friends, Jacob and I only had a 38% compatibility score, so we found that pretty funny!” said Goebel.

“Mabry is my best friend and she is never highly matched with me!” Mesplay shared.
