The 2022 basketball season is kicking off as fall sports end at Monticello High School; “[I’m] looking forward to getting back out and playing games because right now we’re still practicing and conditioning,” said senior Will Ross.
Freshman are also looking forward to their first basketball season at the high school.“I mean games are always fun and I really like playing in tournaments, because they get really competitive and I like playing against talented teams around us,” stated freshman Nolan Buehnerkemper.
With the beginning of a brand new season, the players are getting their minds and bodies prepared. Most have personal goals they wish to accomplish as the season progresses.“I hope to shoot 85% from the free throw line,” shared Ross. The boys have their eyes set on team goals as well.
“There’s big expectations coming into this year because of what we did last year, but I think just playing as hard as we can and getting better as a team. I think getting above five hundred would be good, we’ve done that almost every season so this season would be pretty special to do that,” said Buehnerkemper.
Ross seemed to have similar goals, adding, “We want to win a regional championship, depending on where we get assigned, but that’s our goal for right now and we can go pretty deep if we’re playing together as a team.” The Sages have their first game next week on November 22 at home against Pleasant Plains.
