October 2022 at Monticello High School brought the end of the first quarter and the beginning of fall, and students have begun to adjust to sweater and pumpkin season.
“Now that it’s fall, I’m feeling pretty good getting back into the swing of things. My favorite part is the season change and how it gets colder and the leaves change colors. It’s also the beginning of the holiday season which I love,” said junior Jobi Smith.
Smith’s sentiments were shared by senior Lucy Maxwell, who stated, “I love fall and it’s my favorite season! My favorite part of fall would have to be the weather. It’s not too hot or too cold.”
Students have expressed their excitement about all the happenings and special occasions that the autumn season contains.“The best part of fall is Thanksgiving because I enjoy spending time with family and getting to eat scrumptious food,” Smith shared. Maxwell added, “I’m looking forward to the staple fall things like pumpkin patches, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.”
Despite the general eagerness for the autumn-related activities and the cooler weather, students have also shared the down side of the fall season. “The fall season doesn’t really affect my school performance, but I’ve noticed that my motivation tends to decrease as the year goes on,” Maxwell said.
Smith noted that, while her school motivation isn’t very much affected by autumn, her school schedule only gets busier with sports.
“I have volleyball and then basketball in the fall; it’s really busy. And the days get shorter as fall goes on, which I don’t like. My least favorite part of fall is how little sunlight we get and how short the days are. We have to wait for spring for them to get long and sunny again,” Smith said.
