Most students at Monticello High School believe that their only options for sports are limited to what’s offered at the school. But, what students don’t realize is that we have more options right on the square uptown. Debbie’s Dance Studio is a perfect option if you haven’t found a school sport you like and want something different.

Senior Taylor Herman said, “My favorite part of having dance is that it gives me an outlet of exercise that I actually enjoy. It’s also cool because I feel like it’s a whole world from school.”  Herman and other students from MHS that attend the dance studio have the same feelings about this matter.

Debbie Dobson, owner of “Debbie’s Dance Studio,” said, “Most dance teams are self funded which doesn’t seem fair because if you are on a basketball team they will transport you to another place for a game and pay for uniforms, but for the dance team they wouldn’t pay anything. We had to fundraise with ourselves. It’s also hard to get coaches.” Dance is typically not affiliated with the funding of schools, so studios provide for themselves.

Dobson said,  “I would have you girls perform at games and flyers.  When I was younger I would go to schools and have sessions for a few weeks going to a school to teach.” Dobson had to start dance at schools who did not offer it itself.
