The MHS girls swim team has had a significant growth of athletes joining this season. Last year’s season only had five athletes, this year it has grown to eleven.
Sophomore Aliyah Ellison shared, “I’m so glad there are more people joining this year. I think it’s so cool that the idea of our school having a swim team is now spreading. I also like that people are now giving the swim team a chance, seeing how it’s not as easy as it may look sometimes, and how you really need to put in the work to succeed.” Ellison showed her excitement about the expansion and spreading of the swim team. In years past it has struggled to find numbers, but this year seems to be a change in the right direction for the future of Monticello Highschool swim teams.
The girls have a time trial for relays coming up in preparation for sectionals on November 5th, and claim they have lots to prove. Payton Fuller, a senior on the swim team said,“A lot of people forget about the swim team or feel like we don’t actually put work in. I think it’s because of the fact that we don’t have a pool. A big goal this season is for the team to place at sectionals. As a sign of the effort we’ve been putting in”
As the girls get closer to sectionals and really start to get their heads in the game sophomore Alliyah Ellison exclaimed,“As practices start to pick back up again and get harder, I think this season will be good!”
