This year, the school removed the free lunches provided in years past, resuming the lunch and snack lines. The snackline has now returned for the first time since the senior’s first year.
Senior McKenzie Chrestman said, “I definitely miss how snackline was before COVID. While they’ve added some snacks this year, there’s nowhere near as many options. It also used to be a lot cheaper. My freshman year I would look forward to lunch all morning. I would get an ice-cream everyday. Now, lunch isn’t nearly as exciting or fulfilling.”
This year I solely go through the lunchline, but only because it’s cheaper.

This switch from free lunch has made students examine their spending during the lunch hour. Sophomore Oliver McCleary stated, “I liked free lunch last year, and I also feel like it was easier on a lot of families. The only negative thing was having to adjust from having free lunch every day, to being conscious about how much money is in my account and what I’m buying on a daily basis.”
Chrestman also said, “The new snackline definitely has some good options most of the time, but I wouldn’t say it’s worth the price. I understand that inflation is a big issue right now, but the cost of water is ridiculous.”
So now, when choosing their lunch of the day, most students will have to reflect on what will truly be worth it. “On most days I choose the snackline just because I know I’ll be able to find something in there that I like, but when I don’t have much money in my account I’ll choose the main lunchline,” McCleary said.
Chrestman added, “This year I solely go through the lunchline, but only because it’s cheaper.”
