The MHS track team is quickly making its transition from indoor to outdoor season. The outdoor season allows for more events on both the boys and girls sides, including the 300 meter hurdles and the discus throw. The Sages will travel all over central Illinois in the coming months until the state meet at the end of May.

Coming off of Indoor State, the girls 4×800 placed 3rd (Bruhn, C. Rudolph, Welter, Koon), junior Mabry Bruhn placed 3rd in the 1600, junior Rose Talbert ran the open 400, and senior Jacob Tackett placed 8th in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash.
Freshman Sylvia Miller said, “I am feeling pretty good about my first high school track season. It’s been really fun and exciting so far.” Miller added, “I think I will like outdoor [track] better than indoor, just because it’s easier to breathe outside.”
Sophomore Joe Walker mentioned that her favorite part of the upcoming season is “…running with my teammates again.”
Miller, Kaylin Murphy, and Bella Dunlap are the only freshman on the girls team this year. On the boys side, however, underclassmen makeup the majority of the team. Senior Peyton Scott, Tackett and senior Jackson Grambart look to be crucial parts of the boys team this season. On the other side, Talbert and Rachel Koon are people to watch.
The home opener-for both boys and girls-this year will be on April 19th, weather dependent. Field events such as throwing, jumping, and pole vaulting will be on display at 4:30pm while running events will start at 5:00pm.
