The 2022 soccer season for the Lady Sages has officially started. The girls have put up a 3-2-2 record only two weeks into the season. Two-thirds of the team are new, inexperienced girls that are just now learning the game.

It’s no surprise that everyone is catching onto the game, but something even more special is that everyone is learning together. Freshman and first year soccer player, Vanya Zuniga, stated, “There is so much opportunity for everyone. There are new people, and therefore new friendships are formed. It’s really great to have new players so we can all learn the sport together.”
Freshman Megan Allen has played for Pirates Soccer in the past, but this is her first year on the Monticello team. Allen has made her way up to the top of the board, earning herself a starting spot as a forward on Varsity.
“The team has great chemistry, and we all really work well together to get the ball down the field,” she said. “This group of girls has great potential, and I think we can go far with all the talent on this team.”
Hannah Swanson, a senior and two year soccer player, loves to help lead the team along with all the other seniors. She explained, “I really like that we are learning together, and we aren’t relying on one person to win the game. I love that we all get along and how fun it is even when we have to play in the freezing cold or pouring rain.”
Having a new team isn’t always easy, but there is something about this team that clicks.
