The book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid, is a standalone novel that depicts the life of a new movie star and how she makes her way up to the top. The story begins with Evelyn asking writer Monique Grant if she will write the story of Evelyn’s life.
At first, Monique was hesitant to take the story, considering if doing so would cause her to lose her current job, and she worried whether or not Evelyn was willing to go all-in with this story, from her life from growing up poor and abused by her dad all the way to her being the biggest movie star of her time. As the story unfolds, we learn more about how both Evelyn’s and Monique’s lives interconnect in ways we did not expect.
I first picked up this book a couple months ago because some of my friends had read the book, and they only had good things to say about it. That was all I needed to know in order for me to dive into this book. From the very first chapter, this book had me hooked. I quickly became very invested in all the characters and kept wanting more. As the story progressed, the attachment I had developed for the characters only grew, and the end of the book left me in tears as I finished that last page.
This book had a very long lasting impression on me whenever I see it sitting on my bookshelf. I feel those emotions all over again; the characters have stuck with me.
I think that this book was incredibly well-written, to say the least, and does an amazing job at grabbing your attention and leaving a lasting impact on all who read it.
