Although the seniors at MHS are only a month into their second semester, the drag has already started to hit. Whether it’s lack of motivation to look nice for school or failing to complete every single question on their homework assignments, they are feeling more ready than ever before for the end of the school year.

As many people start to undergo the sluggish feeling that Senioritis is, some students may wonder how to look out for the symptoms and prevent it from taking over. Some common indications of Senioritis are lack of motivation, procrastination, loss of interest in school, a drop in grades, and more. This is all due to being able to see that finish line at the end of their high school careers.
Students at MHS have different ways of dealing with this awkward time of basically being done with your four years, but senior Grace Stapf has a suggestion for her fellow peers.
She explained what is helping her get through these last few months, saying, “…Something that helps me is looking at things one piece at a time. Instead of thinking, wow I need to do this and this and five other things, make a to-do list and plan things out. The more that you plan, the easier the rest of high school and the future will be.”
Another senior, Emily Steffes, shared what’s helping her stay motivated. “ I normally keep myself busy as a way to keep myself on track. I also try to complete most of my homework on Friday night and during the week so that I can have the weekend to relax and have some time to myself.”
Essentially, the best way to deal with Senioritis is to fight through it. The end is almost here, and in these last months of high school, seniors just need to do the best that they can and prioritize some relaxation while staying busy.
Times at Monticello High School during this coming spring will be full of activities and opportunities, and the pulse is going to be fast. Hang in there seniors… it’ll be over in a blink of an eye.
