The spring musical is always an exciting time for the members of the MHS Thespians club. It provides an opportunity for many students to take part in rehearsing, painting, set building, and eventually performing the shows in early March. This year the Thespians will be performing Grease.

Junior Ryan Olsen, who plays the male lead Danny Zuko, described his experiences in Grease thus far, saying, “Grease has been an entirely different experience for me. I never thought I would land a lead role… Grease has been a truly wonderful experience so far, and I’m sure it will only get better.”
The Thespians have many new faces, but also a large group of graduating seniors. Senior Grace Stapf, who plays the role of Jan, said, “Learning the dances can be intense, but being able to get critiques from your friends and help others is so fun.”
Stapf is heavily involved with the Thespians program and has been since her freshman year. She said, “I’m trying not to think about how it’s going to be my last show, however I want to go out with a bang and make sure that this is a great show.”
While the onstage performers gain most of the attention, the members of stage crew are equally as important, and do a lot of heavy lifting both literally and metaphorically.
Assistant Stage Manager Kylie Cherry explained, “I love going to rehearsals and watching everyone dance and enjoy high energy numbers like ‘Greased Lightning’.” Currently Cherry spends most of rehearsals taking notes on when certain set pieces get moved on stage and what props the actors may need.
Overall, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to put together a show. Each person involved plays an important role in the entire process. In the end, everyone is rewarded with a show that runs smoothly and showcases each person’s talents.
