Turkey and traditions

Thanksgiving is full of traditions unique to each family. COVID-19 impacted many traditions this past year. Lots of families were unable to see each other due to restrictions or health concerns. This Thanksgiving, families reunited after a year apart for a meal and a gathering to keep their traditions alive.

Junior Katie Mesplay gave insight to her family’s traditions. “Every year my family and I wake up early for a Turkey Trot. We usually wake up around four and drive to St. Louis where the Turkey Trot is. Every year my brother wears a turkey onesie.  After the race we go get starbucks and drive to my grandparents to help cook dinner.” This year Katie was unable to participate in the annual Turkey Trot due to having a cast on her left leg.

Junior Lucy Maxwell and her family have traditions of their own. This Thanksgiving, Maxwell and many of her family members gathered for a thanksgiving full of food and fun. “My mom and I always make all the pies for our family. This year we made five pies and one cheesecake.”

Other families have a little more laid back traditions. Amanda Dasher, junior, talked about her family’s traditions. “Every year we always go to my grandma’s house. After we get there, we help my grandma make dinner. That’s it!”
