Thanksgiving this year was different from recent years for many students at Monticello High School. COVID has disrupted many plans throughout the couple of years, including gatherings at Thanksgiving. However, with the virus starting to clear up, some MHS families have started to recreate Thanksgiving memories with their families.
“This year we hosted my grandparents and cousins. It was really fun; we played a big game of pictionary and did crafts together after lunch,” senior Kate Goodman shared.
Goodman went on to state that, “Last year we didn’t go anywhere or see anyone, so it was special this year to get to see my family.”
Other students shared Goodman’s positive experience on this past Thanksgiving with family again. Sophomore Quentin Shore reflected fondly on his break this year spent with his family.
“It was really nice being able to hang out with my intimate family as well as cousins and grandparents,” Shore remarked.
While most students at Monticello High School have been able to reconnect and spend time with family during the holidays, that is not the case for everyone.
Kylie Cherry, also a Sophomore, commented on her Thanksgiving break, “We weren’t able to have family over this year. It was just me and my family eating Thanksgiving dinner together with a family friend.”
With things on the mend, hopefully this will be the last year that families are prevented from seeing each other on Thanksgiving and other holidays.
