The last boys basketball season is fast approaching for the Class of 2022. The team is excited as this year comes with the return to a full season unlike last year’s shortened one that ran only from January to February. A long season and the reappearance of the annual Holiday Hoopla, the popular tournament the school hosts in December, are just two of the things the players have to look forward to. Many of the players, especially the seniors, have high hopes for this year.
Senior Trevor Fox stated, “I predict for this year’s team to be one of the most successful teams in recent history. Every game on our schedule is winnable, and our goal is to make every one of them competitive.”
Another player who is ready for his senior season, Joey Sprinkle, said, “My goal for this season is to have a good time and play to the best of my abilities.”
Senior Triston Foran added, “I think the team should be extremely successful this year, as we return many key pieces from a very good season last year.”
Fox’s hopes for his performance are similar to Sprinkle’s, and he stated, “My goal is to play my role to the best of my ability and help the team win as many games as possible. For statistical goals, I would like to shoot above 80 percent and hopefully bring home another plaque for leading free throw percentage.”
Senior year is often considered to be the most important year in any sport. This year, another thing the team has to look forward to is that they will get to use and play in the newest and biggest gym, the Sievers Center.
Fox commented, “The best part about senior year ball, rather than junior or sophomore ball, is that you feel more weight on your shoulder. There is more responsibility on you, and you also get to coach up the younger guys that are new to the program. Being a senior in sports is a different feeling than any other year, which in my case I believe is for the better.”
Foran added to this and said, “It’s special being able to mentor the younger classes and just bring the energy at practice.”
Sprinkle declared, “I’m now a senior, so everyone has to listen to me.”
