The Sages Football team suffered a season-ending loss in the second playoff game against Benton. The Sages had a phenomenal season, ending with a record of 8-3. The boys created bonds they could never imagine, especially the seniors.
Joey Sprinkle, the quarterback, impacted the team tremendously. All the boys look up to Sprinkle. “It’s amazing because everyone looks up to me physically and mentally. I hope that they all know they can all do incredible things if they put hard work in,” said Sprinkle.
Another big contributor to the team, Jake Tackett, had no fear going into his final game. “I didn’t feel like I had any pressure on me because I know what my team and I can do and we had nothing to lose, as well as we had to give it our all knowing it could be our last game of the season,” stated Tackett.
Senior defensive lineman, Ashton Wassom, had the opportunity to play with his younger brother, a freshman, Evan Wassom. “It was interesting being able to play with my younger brother because I got to see how he was around other people. It was fun being able to play with him during my last year of highschool,” said Ashton. Evan shared, “I liked playing with Ashton because it was a good experience, and he pushed me everyday to be better. It was nice being able to look up to someone, especially my older brother.”
Wyatt Kenyon, a senior, played a big role on defense. Kenyon moved to Monticello last year from STM, hoping to better his football skills. “Everyone at Monticello is closer and has better bonds with each other. I love coming to practice everyday knowing that I get to practice with all of my friends.”
