The National FFA convention is the largest in school youth convention. Thousands of students gather to learn about careers in the agriculture industry. Students have the opportunity to stay overnight and participate in a number of events.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 FFA National Convention was cancelled. Many students were saddened by the news but were excited that this year they were able to participate.

“My favorite part was watching David Lopez, the western region vice president, give his retiring address,” said Vice President Abbey Gillespie. “He came to our officer retreat over the summer, so it was cool to watch him in a professional role.”

President Ethan Robson shared, “My favorite part of the convention was getting to meet new people from all over the United States and getting to learn more of why I wanted to become an officer.”

Senior Olivia Ray stated, “My favorite part of the National Convention was making new friends I made within my chapter. Also listening to David Lopez’s retiring address.”

Creating friendships is just one thing that happens at the convention. As students, they get to learn more about the world and careers of agriculture. It teaches you that FFA is more than just planting and harvesting. It is a science, a business, and an art. This event teaches you a variety of careers related to agriculture and a lot about the organization.

“ I learned a lot about our organization as a whole,” Robson said. “For example, it was pretty cool to listen to the National Officers Retiring address. I learned a lot about the officers who lead the organization.”

Ray explained, “ One thing that I took away from this event was that no matter how different each of us are, we all have one thing in common: working to better the future of agriculture.”
