Last year, the Youth Advisory Committee had to find new ways to interact with the student body because of the new schedule at the high school. With many students feeling the effects of the pandemic, whether that be because of contact tracing or sick relatives, everyone needed access to a place they could receive counseling or help from, and YAC was eager to help.

The group had a hard time at first finding new ways to make an impact on the student body at first, but after coming up with the idea to make goodie bags to help out with stressed students, their year seemed to take off.

Senior Cora Sowinski, who is now president of the YAC said, “Planning for this year’s events began at our October meeting and we could not be more excited to start on a new and improved version of the goodie bags.”

Sowinski also mentioned, “We lost a few members of our already small group after last year, but we’ve started to gain new members that have great ideas to share!”

First year member Tinley Jackson said, “ I joined this group because it seemed to have a lot of similar values that I have. I think that the fact that the group works toward prevention among the kids of our community is so awesome, and I hope to help a lot in my next few years as a member.”

YAC had their second meeting in mid October where they welcomed a few new members to the group and talked about their plans for the year. This year, the group plans to continue with a vape take back day, chalk the walk, and goodie bags. Jackson said, “I’m so excited to contribute to the group and watch my own ideas come to life.”
