Although it may not be for everyone, Art Club certainly has plenty of activity and mobility to suit anyone with an artistic inclination, but what will Art Club do this year? Even though some events are still to be determined, there are many near events to look forward to, including parties, meetups, & movie nights galore.
Stripens, the art teacher for all grades, gave a rundown of what to expect for the Art Club, “We have our annual pumpkin carve and movie night this month.”
For those who like classic movies, be sure to add the Pumpkin Carve to your schedule. Mr. Stripens shared, “This year we’re gonna be watching Beetlejuice.” Attendees can expect carved pumpkins, snacks, and at the end a winner will be picked (by other attendees) for the grand prize of the “Golden Pumpkin”, full of glorious supplies. The 13th Annual Pumpkin carve will take place on Thursday, October 28th, starting after school to 5:30 PM.
Some time after that will be the Street Art and Movie Night; the date is to be determined. After watching the movie “Exit Through The Gift Shop” about street art and graffiti, made by street artist “Banksy”, the Art Club will go out on the streets of Monticello, putting quality graffiti over the town.
Around Christmas time, Art Club keeps in with the festivities, painting plenty of the school’s windows to match the jolly mood of the holiday. Stripens said, “The seniors usually paint the cafeteria windows–the big ones– so it should be pretty fun. Hopefully everything turns out alright.”
Spring time is usually the busiest time for Art Club. Stripens revealed, “We have a random holiday that we do stuff with… like one year we picked national nougat day so we had all nougat-based snacks.” This is likely the most obscure event, since nobody knows what the picked holiday could be.
After that, the Art Club will have spring photography, which is usually a scavenger hunt or a nature walk.
The last planned event for spring would be the Tie-dye party. Participants will join for a big tie-dye meet-up, and about a week later, members will invite the Washington students over and teach them how to Tie-die.
At the end of the year there’s the trip to St. Louis, all of the Art Club members pack up and head on down. The location can vary, but it usually stays in the Botanical Garden, St. Louis Art Museum, or the St. Louis Zoo.
