Even though the name has changed, this art class offered to upperclassmen still gives students lots of creative freedom to do projects, whether they have taken another art class before or not.
Addie Wallace and Cara Johnson are two seniors taking the class this year. One of the main draws of this type of art class is the variety of materials and types of projects in the curriculum.
“I like that we have the creative freedom to make things that interest us,” said Johnson. Wallace agreed, saying, “Students are able to push their own boundaries with the freedom allowed in this class.”
The first project in the class that many students look forward to is a cardboard sculpture that can be inspired by anything. Wallace stated, “My murder goose was really fun to make out of cardboard.”
Johnson made a large, 3D alligator sculpture and commented, “I hated making it, but the end result is really cool.” Wallace added, “I was surprised nobody accidentally hurt themselves or stabbed others with the box cutters we used on the project.”
Since the first quarter of the year has wrapped up, so have the projects and it’s time for new ones. Johnson commented, “I am looking forward to our ceramic unit, specifically because I made a giant clay pineapple freshman year that I never got to finish, so I’m excited to finish it my senior year.”
She continued and said “I would definitely recommend this class to someone. Creative Concepts gives its students lots of creative freedom to make art that represents them. It’s also a really chill class that allows you to listen to music and hang out while working.”
